He did tell me that, you know, he had a plan laid out. He offered me that plan. And he said it would take some time to go through it and I had to be patient. And, you know, it might look a little worse before it gets better, but he promised me that it wouldn’t look so bad that I wouldn’t want to smile or talk or what have you with people. And he was right. He was right. And, of course, he could see it before I could see it, you know, the changes and what it was going to be like. Because he obviously had patients doing it before.
But I trusted him. And just believed he knew exactly what he was doing, which he did. And so I just went with it. And he was right all along the way. I mean, as far as the smile looks, as far as my teeth…you know, there was parts where we had to spread them apart and, you know, to make room and things like that, but along the way, you could tell it started looking better and better and better, and every week it looked even better than the week before. It was very rewarding to see that.
There’s four in the front, so the four front are crowns. And the process was really simple. I mean, I went in, then they put on the temporary crowns, which actually looked great. I mean, they looked wonderful and I thought, “Wow, if the temporary crowns look this good, I cannot wait to see the real ones.” And then, within a couple of weeks, then we were able to put on the real ones and I just was amazed. I actually could not stop smiling for days. And now, I smile and people see and they’re like, “Smile again. Let me see that.” And really I get people telling me all the time that have known me for years, “Something’s different. Smile again.” And they notice it. And they literally ask me, “Where did you get your teeth? What happened? What did you do?” And I always tell them Dr. Smith, Creekwood Dental, and they’re just like, “That’s just such an amazing difference, such a difference.”
And I didn’t realize until it was over and I saw the before and the after, what a difference. I did not know how bad my teeth looked, how bad my smile was until I saw the before and after. And just to have a healthy smile and healthy teeth, it’s such a dramatic difference. And especially when you’re working in the public a lot and it just…it really boosts your confidence, makes you feel better about yourself. And just being able to take care of your teeth and not being afraid anymore is such a blessing to me. And finding a dentist in the practice that he is not only the dentist but the orthodontist, and I didn’t have to go somewhere else because when I first heard that, I thought, “Oh, no, I don’t want to go anywhere else. I want to stay here.” But knowing I could do that here in one place, that was the best thing ever.

I had a lot of dental anxieties over the years, so much that I just would avoid going to the dentist, which obviously caused a lot of issues over the years. And if you don’t go to the dentist on a regular basis, those just build up. When I did go in the past, it always led to big major problems, a lot of time in the chair, a lot of anxiety, to the point where I would have to take medication just to go into the office. My smile was…it was just ugly. There was nothing good about it. My teeth were broken in parts, especially the front. They would just break off. That’s one of the reasons that I reached out to Dr. Smith and said, “I really need help with this.” Because my job is a very public job, and I have to be around people, smile a lot, talk a lot, and that’s something you just can’t hide.
His reaction was, “We can definitely fix this. We can definitely improve your smile.” I didn’t even realize that I might need braces. And then when we came in, and he did his first consultation with me, and then said that that’s something that I would need, and then approached with the idea of doing the Invisalign, at first I thought, “Oh, I don’t know if Invisalign will work.” I never really put much stock in that. And I kind of thought, “I don’t know if they’re going to work. Wouldn’t braces work better,” kind of a deal. And then he talked to me about the options, braces versus Invisalign, and the time period between the two, and how much better the Invisalign was because they really could actually get more accuracy with the Invisalign than you can with the braces, and he can fine-tune it better with the Invisalign than he could with the braces. So I decided, “Okay, let’s do that.” So it was kind of a surprise to me that we would need to do the Invisalign. And so I went into it with a little bit of skepticism, but then slowly, after I saw some results, I was like, “Okay, these do work.”

Upon recommendations of friends is kind of how we started. And I came first, and then my husband was at another dentist. I’m like, “Hey, it’s a great experience. He does really good work.” So he transitioned over, and then we then transitioned with the kids to have some second opinions done and we appreciated the plan of care. So then we brought them over and it’s been kind of the same. We’ve had friends that have asked us, you know, “Hey, who do you use?” And it’s nice to be able to have that recommendation and know that I don’t have to worry, is he gonna follow through and are they gonna have the same experience? Because over and over, they have had the same great experience.
They have always been really good about coming to the dentist here. Previous experiences were not the same, so it’s nice for them to have that experience. My daughter’s way at college now, so she makes her appointments and comes back whenever she’s in town. She’s handling that on her own. There’s no hesitancy or resistance to come to the dentist. And same for my middle school son as well. The level of care surpasses what your expectation would be. It is something that, and especially when it comes to when people are providing services, you’ve gotta be able to trust them and their professional opinion, and that is something you definitely find with Dr. Smith.

I did get a quote several years ago, and just the thought of them drilling into my jawbone was not something I was about signing up for, especially because it was not within the site. There’s a level of trust with him, right? Like, I’ve been with him for so long, I trusted him to be able to do that, versus walking into someone who I didn’t know, is based on a referral and going forth that way. So there’s the rapport there that played into it.
So I thought of a bridge, but I didn’t want to put more crowns in. I wanted to be able to have that and be done with it whenever I did it, have finality to it. I was surprised that it didn’t hurt as bad as I thought it would be. I thought it was going to be much worse. I took the medications beforehand as prescribed, went home, and just kind of chilled out that day.
I feel like that area is not sunken in, if that makes any sense. Just the feel of it itself feels fuller. The level of trust that you can build with him, the fact that he is accessible, the fact that he takes his time and explains everything to you is worth its weight, really, and especially because it’s a multi-step procedure. So you’re going to have questions along the way and you’re going to need someone that’s accessible. And the quality of his work is great.

I was a little self-conscious about it. And my teeth were crooked, and that’s normal but going through Invisalign and everything, it definitely brought a lot of confidence into me as a person and helped me develop who I am now.
It was very easy to do normal life stuff. It didn’t really interfere at all. I just had to take it out at lunch and then put it back in afterwards, but it was really comfortable so I was pretty okay with it.
I started noticing the changes about, like, four or five months in, which is when I started actually seeing a lot of changes and it was really quick and easy. The day-to-day life felt really slow but it started getting easier as the time went by.
I play soccer a lot and I’m the goalkeeper so I do have a tendency to get hit in the face sometimes. Wearing the Invisalign kind of just helped to keep my cheeks from getting cut up and it helped me be confident also while smiling because like with braces just it didn’t sit right with me. So it’s definitely a big recommendation, especially for teens nowadays who kind of get super self-conscious about their self-appearance. It helps bring a lot of confidence and I know that it can definitely help with others too.

Staff is very friendly and they have a lot of teenage like patients. So they do understand, like what’s comfortable, what’s not. And Invisalign is definitely also a subject that they’re very well touched on because they understand what it’s like growing up with braces and stuff. And I think a lot of them have a lot of recommendations to where they can do it safely and efficiently, but also maintain their confidence as they’re doing Invisalign and braces and stuff.
But again, Invisalign is a better option in my opinion. I think it was just more that like I felt better seeing myself with like clear than like with braces and everything. But no, it’s not ostracizing nowadays. It’s just like some people feel more uncomfortable about it, but it’s it’s good. Still fine. Braces work well, but Invisalign is definitely a better choice, in my opinion, because it helped maintain a lot of confidence that I gained growing up.

With my middle child, we definitely knew right away there was a lot of teeth crowding. I mean, he had extra teeth even. So it was something that was brought up like, you know, that was a path that we were going to need to take. And when we found out that Dr. Smith was doing it here, by the time my middle son needed it, it was so easy to just transition right into the orthodontic care from just the regular dental care. So it’s so nice to still just go to the same place, make your appointments for the cleaning.
Sometimes we could overlap them. They work with our schedule so well because my kids are involved in a lot of activities. So they’re super great with the scheduling to make sure that it works for our family. And there have been multiple times where I haven’t been able to make it. We’ve had family circumstances where both my husband and I were not able to be, you know, in a position to bring the kids in and it was just great. Everything was… They had all our information, so it’s like my older son could bring in the younger kids and everything just went so smoothly because we’re just known here, and that’s a good feeling.
I’ve had two go through the dental process and they both did great. I mean, they really prepped them ahead of time for, you know, this one’s going to maybe be a little more painful because, you know, we’re doing some tighter wires or something like that so you might feel a little bit sore, and kind of prepped them for those kind of things. But really they kind of did great with it all and nothing seemed too overwhelming for them as far as the pain goes or anything like that. So it was really nice.
You know, I had two different kids who, one, kind of came in and was just so like, “Yeah, give me the same color every time, do this kind of thing.” I had a daughter who was totally into wanting to change up the colors, and they were just so great about always giving her those little options and making her feel really special with whatever event was coming up, if she wanted to do red for something great or blue because she loves that color for her college team that she supports, or something like that. It was just really fun. So everything was super easy with their little process of getting their braces.

He was at a birthday party at a laser tag event, and right in the last, like, 10 seconds of playing time, as they were running to put in their points or whatever, he ran right into the butt of the gun of another friend, and it busted out his teeth, his two front teeth, just like the corners of them. But one of them was high enough to where the nerve was exposed and there was blood. And so right away, it was just a panic situation, but I knew that I could call Dr. Smith, and I did. And he was actually not on call at the time. He was working with another doctor that they shared the weekends of when they were on, and he got us right in with that person that was able to at least put on and cover up that nerve until Dr. Smith could get to him, like, the following couple days.
And so that was super great because I remember Dr. Smith, they got us in right away because they knew that we were worried about the situation. And they did everything in a great… The procedure that they followed, they didn’t go anything too drastic right away. They just sort of let the tooth heal in the way that it was gonna heal until it got to the next step of what we needed to do in the next step, which eventually led to, like, a root canal that we had to do because it did eventually kind of die and we had to do some things like that. But it was just great that if there was any problem or if he was in any amount of pain, we could call and they could get him in. And they were super good about, you know, putting him at ease because being a kid in school and having your teeth kind of knocked out is not the funnest experience and you don’t feel super great about your smile or anything like that, but they just were always super positive when we came in and, “We’re gonna get you through this.”

She started in middle school, you know, that awkward stage where kids are starting to get the braces and the smiles are just, you know, hit or miss with the teeth. She started with traditional braces and went through a few years of that. And just to get them perfectly where we wanted them and where Dr. Smith thought that they were going to look the best was our next option was to go to Invisalign for a few months. So we decided to go that route and finish them off and really get her smile to where she wanted it to be and where she was happy with it. And she’s extremely happy with the results too. She had a lot of gaps, you know, with…we had to pull…extract a lot of teeth in the beginning and get them just right. So they would move and they would shift tremendously in one way or the other. And to get the small little shifts that he wanted, he said he could do it better with Invisalign. So we moved over and finished our journey with Invisalign. Of course, like all middle school children, they were, you know, excited before they got them on. Then once they got them on after about a week or so, the self-image thing kind of kicked in and not wanting to have the metal braces anymore. But we got through it. She was happy for the actual taking the metal off and going to the Invisalign. Continuing with braces a little bit longer was not ideal. But I think she was happy to get the metal off and get something a little less obvious.
Before I started my Invisalign journey, I had had braces as a child growing up and didn’t take the proper care needed. And so there was a little misalignment there afterwards. And as an adult, as I got older, I wasn’t happy with my smile, a little bit of crookedness. I thought it was gonna be simple. I ended up going a little bit longer than I thought, but that’s not my profession. So I took that and went with Dr. Smith’s recommendations and ended up doing Invisalign, and I really loved the journey.
What made me choose Invisalign was more the look and the feel of the Invisalign itself, and then also the ease of the visits and just kind of taking them in and out and not having to come as often on a monthly basis. So I could span out my visits a little bit longer. I love it. I’m very happy with the results from the Invisalign.
My friends and families didn’t notice when I have the Invisalign. Very minimal noticed until I brought it up. And then afterwards, they’ve nothing but compliments on how it was and asking who I went to and how I liked it. And so I can give those great stories to them as well.
The impact on the care on each day was nothing extraordinary than just brushing your teeth and just a little extra brush for your retainers and pop them in and out. When you first have them on, it was a little difficult to get used to, to take them out and put them in right before you eat or drink anything. But after about two or three weeks, you get used to it and popping them in and out was super easy.
I’ve recommended several people to come here. Anytime they ask, we will give a recommendation to come here because we absolutely love it. So for teeth cleaning or Invisalign, braces, all the way through, we’ll give recommendations. I think it’s an excellent place.
